ArtWorks - Kenosha, Wisconsin

I participated in a group show at ArtWorks in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It was an open theme show with a lot of great and diverse work in there. The space that ArtWorks was in at the time, is this wonderful old store front. The gallery space is upstairs and the ceiling is very low, even at 5'4 I felt a little confined.  However, it is a loft and overlooks the front of the store front windows. The lower level is also part gallery and part store. All sorts of art, home, and supplies are for sale. Chet is a great gallery owner and very supportive to artists. It was an honor to be a part of the show.

Lowell National Historical Park Celebrates Anniversary with a National Exhibition

The National Park Service turns 100 years old on August 25, 2016! In celebration of the centennial, the Brush Art Gallery and Studios in partnership with Lowell National Historical Park is exhibiting contemporary art in a juried exhibit, held at the Brush Art Gallery and Studios.   Storytelling has been a part of our shared cultural heritage for generations. It brings people together, imprints pictures on their minds, and fosters meaningful connections with history, culture, and the natural world around us. The unique treasures that make up our beloved National Park Service are as diverse as we are; from historic homes, trails, battlefields, and cemeteries to bustling urban centers, canal ways, recreation areas, and seashores. In response to the NPS Centennial “Find Your Park” campaign, we asked artists to submit their personal connections. Here is what “Telling American Stories: Celebrating 100 Years of the National Park Service” means to them!

This exhibit has one of my images in it. I am so incredibly happy to be a part of this very special exhibit. I absolutely love national, state, county, and city parks. I even love things that are not necessarily parks. I love the outdoors and nature and the beauty of it all. My image To Where is in this exhibit. From Earth - Tall Grass Arts Association

Two of my images - After Rain and Off the Highway are in this show. Check it out if you are in the Park Forest, Illinois area or want to make a road trip to see it! It is a mixed media show, so there are a lot of different mediums, and styles to feed your senses.

6th Annual Fine Art of Photography Exhibit

 One of my images was selected for the Plymouth Center for the Arts 6th Annual Fine Art of Photography exhibition in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The show was up until May 14th. Below is the show slide show, as well as a link to the exhibit information. There were some very beautiful and deep images selected. I am very proud to be a part of such an amazing set of photographs.

 Here is a glimpse of the show... There are a couple images of me being awkward as always. There are also images of the collaboration Brian and I did with out work. I think that was the best part of the show. His paintings paired with my fee pictures. How perfect... I would love to show this work around the world. If you own a gallery or know of a gallery I would love to be in contact with them. Please let me know!

At the show they had a guest book for people to sign, and it brought me to tears to read the short stories people wrote and how they connected to my work. It meant that what I am/have suffered through was for the better. I want to help people with the similar issues I have, I want people to share those stories with me and for me to help them as much as I can. I have always been alone in this pain, but now it feels like I won't be anymore.

Ubiquitous Shadows - Overture Center - Madison Wisconsin

Ubiquitous Shadows - was a show that I did with my co-exhibitor Brian Bartlett in Madison Wisconsin at the Overture Center for the Arts. It was truly a great and wonderful experience. I enjoyed working with Brian for his humor, excellent talent, and great ideas. Beth, and Meri-Rose of the Overture Center were the commanders of the operation with great knowledge and positive attitudes. They all were so warm, fun, and insightful. To have my personal work, my feet series to be exact, at a prestigious place as the Overture Center was an honor. I was thrilled and scared at the same time when I found out they selected my work. This series has never been shown to the public before this event. I didn't know what people would say, think, or how they would react. I was taking a leap of faith. Beth and the Overture Center believed in me, and my work, and that made me feel like what I created was something special. I want to thank them, Brian, and the sponsors Madison Investment Advisors, LLC and Arts Access Fund a component fund of the Madison Community Foundation.
 

Artists Brian Bartlett and Katie Markson employ portraiture to expose human vulnerability. Where Barlett's faded and abstracted paintings depict satirical characters with familiar yet memorable features, Markson's black and white photographs provide a striking glimpse into the personal reality of living with club foot.

Healing Forest Studio

Healing Forest Studio in Waukesha, Wisconsin had their grand opening a few months back. They moved to a new building right in the beautiful downtown area.

They invited me to put some greeting and post cards on consignment, and I did with out hesitation.

The studio is very warm and inviting. They offer classes in painting, drawing and even bonsai!!
Not to mention all the the artist pieces they have for sale there. If you are ever in the Waukesha area check out the downtown. It is a great place where you can find many great art shops and restaurants!!
