I think I am weird, because I love reflections!! I am always so drawn to them, and to the possibilities that reflections offer. Honestly, I have about 400 or more reflection images, and I still can't get enough of them. It is my weakness. I think one day it would be crazy exciting to have a show of all reflection images. Hm, maybe that will be on my long list of things to do...
This first set of images, was taken for a street photography assignment. Since it was my first "official" ( official meaning school assignment, assignment) I was overwhelmed with it. The day I took these was a freezing cold day in November. That really made it more difficult to capture some great street shots. Side note, my class mates, and I all asked why in the world would you have a street photography assignment in November!? But, anyways, I was again draw in by the reflections of people, in a place where they felt more comfortable, and I was on the outside looking in. I liked this assignment and the fun I had with people on the street that wanted me to take their picture, or the ones who didn't. haha....
This set of images, is a set I took back in 2009 while on a visit to
Wisconsin. These images, are all reflections in the Racine Art Museum
window that is located down town. Some images are of the Johnson
building next to the Racine Art Museum, and some are just reflections of
the things in the museum window. This has always been on of my favorite
series. A lot of people are really drawn to these images as well.
These are just a few snow images that I took last winter. One of my professors at AAU really liked these images, I really do love Cissy Spindler and her words. She is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. Plus, she said that I have a couple images that remind her of Imogen Cunningham images. A girl has to love to hear that!!
In my previous post, aka my artist statement I mentioned the RAW Artist organization. This is an organization that is becoming a larger and more known entity. I came across them, by doing some searching for photo stuff. I saw that they were looking for artists to exhibit work in their new Madison, Wisconsin location. Seeing that they were already in a few larger cities, and that they were opening a place in Madison, I totally went for it. I submitted a few images, and did not hear from anyone. Ha. It felt like such a long time had passed since I submitted my images, that I did almost forget about it. Then I got a phone call from a really nice girl, asking if I wanted to be a part of this organization. Of course I said heck yea!
I will spare you all the details and boring stuff, but the night came for show time, and it was a blast. I loved the fast and furious pleasure of it. The people I met were all so amazingly nice, open, and fun. The show was held in a night club that all the artists transformed into this unconventional art exhibit. There were all sorts of artists there, from clothing designers, photographers, painters, sculpture, to video production artists. One of the best things about this organization is that once you do a show with them, you are forever a RAW artist/member. I get to check out their other showcases, and I get to show my photography in any of their other RAW cities.
Now down to the point of this whole post..... When I did the RAW Artist's showcase in Madison, I received many great, and hilarious pictures that were taken by another RAW artist Angela (Green Paint Photography). As well as a great interview video. Sooooo.... below are the video and some of those great images from Angela. Oh, and my link to my page on the RAW Artist website!

Photography is the window to my mind. My images are how I saw the world that day whether it be a little blurry or full of chaos. I like to make things beautiful if only it was for that instant that image was taken. My uncle Ralph used to take pictures while traveling and he would show me these massive poster size prints. I say that he was the one who made it clear to me that I wanted to become a photographer. He was the one who put the icing on the cake for me. From that point on that is all I could tell people, even as a little kid. I wanted to become a photographer. I like to make photographs that show the world through my eyes.
My photographs show the tiny details that people look over. The use of close ups, black and white, and nature make up what I love to do. I keep my designs simple, with good use of balance. Texture, line, and shape are my favorite things to use in my photography. I don't ever use photo correction software. With me what you see is pretty much what you get. I always try to look at the world with fresh eyes, and experience the beauty in life. We as a world live so fast, and you only live once. My work takes life and stops it for people to view and appreciate it. My creativity comes from petals of a dead flower, the wind blowing leaves, the reflection of my self in a store front window, just simple things that I take for granted sometimes. These are the times when I stop the world for that second and hold it, keep if forever in a photograph.
At this point in time I am attending the Academy of Art University getting my BFA in Photography. This will be my fourth year with AAU. In the past year I have shown my work in Racine, Wisconsin as well as Madison, Wisconsin with the RAW Artist Organization. I am published in two RoHo Art Gallery books. RoHo Gallery is located in Ohio. The past year, I have done a fair share of product photography. In the coming months I will be a part of the Racine Art Museum’s Wisconsin Photographers exhibit which I look forward to.
When I was younger I knew that I looked at life a little differently then other people. It was my mother who taught me how to do that. She loved nature as I do now. I will keep growing as an artist and keep learning new things. I want to try and break out of my box with photography. In the up coming years, I plan to do just that.
